September 30th, right on schedule, the money showed up in PayPal:

Mobclix recently switched to a net-90 payment scheme, as I discussed here. So this is my income through the end of June. It’s a pretty modest amount compared to some of the developers who I follow online, but it’s my first payment, and that’s a pretty big milestone. So this is a happy day :)

I checked this against my stats, and my numbers come out to $130.43. There’s always some adjustment to these figures as far as I can tell, and I’m not too worried about 10 cents. Looking back through my income reports, I earned more than $100 in July, so I should get another payment at the end of October. After that, I’m not going to get any payments for a while, based on my August and September income (which I’ll publish in a few days).

It’s probably a huge cliche to use a Devanagari-looking font for anything with an Indian. But this should be a fairly stylized Indian game, so why not? :) This wouldn’t be used for a lot of text – probably just the title in the splash screen, maybe the main menu, things like that.

I did some searching on dafont, my usual go-to source for freeware / shareware fonts, and found 3 choices that look like what I’m thinking about.

After releasing the Bus Jumper update, I went back to working on Neil Rajah. And I realized one of the things that I was subconsciously dreading – the class hierarchy. It took me the better part of a week to come up with the classes for the weapons and bullets, and a large part of that time was spent in repeatedly going over the same ground – changing my mind, re-writing code, trying to make sure I had a design that looked solid. I wasn’t looking forward to doing that for every sub-section of the game. So I decided to do some research.

After the recent Bus Jumper update, I put out a couple of press releases on some press release sites, just to see what would happen. I think as a result of that, GameSpot ran into the Bus Jumper gameplay video, and uploaded that to their YouTube channel. It got some pretty funny comments, and I decided to join in and poke fun at myself too. One of the comments that got up-voted a lot said “Like a bus!”. I had no idea what that meant, so I had to go look it up. And this is what I found:

It was uploaded in July, probably went viral pretty soon, and now has over 1.5 million views. If I had been a bit more connected to the internet and had noticed this, it would have been pretty simple to release a re-skinned Bus Jumper with a red bus with the number 62 on it. Maybe include the water theme in the platforms or obstacles somehow. Then I could have tried to share some of this video’s 15 minutes of fame.

Alas, that window of opportunity is now closed, and I have, quite literally, missed that bus ;)

I had pretty much decided to stop updating my apps on the Amazon store. I’m no fan of their policy, and I’d have to update the code and graphics to point to the Amazon store instead of Google, which seemed like more of a hassle than it was worth. But I just happened to check there today, and I see this review (which happens to be the first positive review I’ve received there):

In a word: awesome. Everything about this game is great. Challenging, fun, hilarious — why no one else has noticed this gem is a mystery to me.

And I thought, hey, I want this person to have the latest version of my game. I put a bunch of work into it, and here’s someone who genuinely likes it.

So… I changed the links and the graphics, built a new apk, and the app is now submitted and under review. I might do the paid app too, since all the work’s already done.

I don’t expect the new versions to do any better on Amazon than the old ones, but hey, a few more users here and there won’t hurt :)
