Pretty much on a whim, I had created an ad-free version of Neil Rajah and submitted it to the NOOK app store. As I mentioned yesterday, I got a rejection email, and the reason given was “We do not support in-app purchases”. I filed a support ticket asking for clarification, since the Swarm store uses Paypal, so there’s no support required from the device. The clarification was basically “We do not allow 3rd party IAP libraries”. They specifically mentioned that games that have Scoreloop, for instance, aren’t allowed.

I could work around this by creating a new app in Swarm, copying the leaderboard and achievements over, and leaving out the store. Shouldn’t be too much work. If I’m bored and/or desperate, I might look into that. Based on reports I’ve seen from other developers, I suspect there’s going to be more red tape involved. I’m somewhat interested in that store, because many developers report good and steady income from it. Yes, it’s a much smaller audience, but AFAIK, there are also far fewer apps to compete against. So, I might re-visit that some day. Right now, I have my hands pretty full.

  1. I compared several times the number of votes for the paid applications on market and on Nook and there is a huge difference, it look like that Nook users are ready to pay for apps if they like it. So I think that it is a worth to go for it.

    • That’s good to know. I haven’t actually tried comparing the same game / app on both stores, so it looks like you’ve researched this in more detail than I have.
