On Feb 1st I got a payment notice from AdMob for my December earning. About $70, which isn’t bad considering I switched to AdMob a couple of days before Christmas. In hindsight, I should have done it sometime in November, and picked up more of the holiday season. I haven’t received the money yet, they’re switching to some new system where they’ll pay on the 15th, but so far, this is encouraging.

In contrast, I’m still waiting for my June payment from Mobclix. After nagging them with a couple of support tickets, they said that June and July payments will be processed this week, and sent out next week. We’ll see how that goes. The sad thing is, I’m still getting impressions on Mobclix from older versions of my game that are out there, and those are earning more than AdMob. I might still switch back to Mobclix, but at this point I’m going to wait to see if their payment history stabilizes. For June and July, they owe me around $400. That’s pocket change for many other developers, but it’s a pretty good chunk of money for me :)

On another note – I finally caved and installed the AppBrain app wall in both Bus Jumper and Neil Rajah. I was looking for something to replace the 320×250 ‘interstitial’ in Neil Rajah (which is still going to Mobclix, since AdMob doesn’t have an ad in that size), but I decided to keep things simple for now and went with their example integration. So you get a “Do you want to install more apps?” window when you exit the game, and it shows up about once every 3 days. The update has been out for a couple of days, and I haven’t received a flood of negative reviews, so hopefully people won’t mind it too much. We’ll see. Not much revenue from it yet – about 20 cents a day :)

I think I’ve mentioned this in the past – I’ve always got more Bus Jumper users showing up on Flurry than I can account for. I recently switched Neil Rajah to AdMob, and a couple of days later I did the same for Bus Jumper. The new version is on the Google Play Store, as well as most of the 3rd party stores I use – SlideME, GetJar, etc. I haven’t yet submitted the update to Amazon or B&N, but those stores had different app version numbers, so I can track how many users I’m getting from them (answer: not many). However, I’m still getting lots of new users every day for a very old version of Bus Jumper, and I don’t know where they’re coming from.

In my last income report, I had mentioned a discrepancy in the NOOK store numbers. The reports showed about 500 sales of Bus Jumper, my Flurry data confirmed a similar number of new users, but the revenue numbers didn’t match up. Well, apparently, when B&N were processing the last update I made, they accidentally made the game free for a few hours. The roughly 500 downloads happened during the time that the game was free. Since this was their error, they are going to pay me what I would have earned if those had been legitimate sales. I should receive this payment at the end of June. There were a total of 564 copies downloaded for free, which works out to $390.78 that they are going to pay me.

This kinda sucks for B&N. I’m not going to complain about the money, but it’s a somewhat ironic way to generate revenue from your games :)

Partly out of boredom and partly out of curiosity, I decided to compare some performance metrics between Neil Rajah and Bus Jumper. These numbers are from April 21st through the 28th.

This entry is part 8 of 8 in the series Alternative Market Stats

I spent most of March working on Neil Rajah, and didn’t pay much attention to what was going on with my existing games. I’ve checked my Mobclix stats a few times, but this is the first time I’m looking at download counts across the stores. So let’s see what that looks like. Here’s the table format I’ve settled on. Downloads for last 3 months, and current total. These are for the free version of Bus Jumper, which is the only game I’ve released that I’m tracking. The table is sorted by the March downloads.
