Neil Rajah
Neil Rajah is an old-school side-scrolling platformer. My love for Prince of Persia should be evident throughout the game. The story borrows loosely from Indian mythology. Your princess is abducted by the evil three-headed demon. She leaves a trail of diamonds to help you find her. Play through dozens of levels in a snowy mountain world as you battle monsters and avoid traps. Collect diamonds and use them to buy upgrades.
Neil Rajah is my most ambitious project to date. As games go, it’s not very complex, but for me, this was a pretty major undertaking. I built a new game engine around libGDX, Artemis, and Gemserk. I worked with an artist and a composer, so the graphics and music are much better than any of my previous games. I also went through a fairly extensive beta test with over a dozen testers, and all that feedback helped me add polish and improve the user experience.
I’ve kept a running development journal for this game, so you can follow my (sporadic) progress over the last 7 months if you want. This link will take you to all blog posts from the Neil Rajah category. I ended up cutting a lot of the initial ideas I had for the game, but I think every developer goes through the same experience at some point. I hope the game does well, in which case I’ll probably continue working on it, and I can add in some of the things I didn’t get to do in the first version.
