It’s been about 24 hours since I released Neil Rajah. According to Flurry, I’ve had about 100 new users in that time. Compare that to Bus Jumper, which crossed 1000 users in its first 8 hours, and 10,000 user in under a month. There is no way that Bus Jumper is a better game than Neil Rajah. So this, right here, is the difference between the old marketplace which had ‘Just In’, vs. the new one which does not.

This is pretty depressing, if I think about it in these terms. But, it’s just been a day, I don’t think the game is already doomed :) More importantly, I have 12 reviews already, and all of them are 5 stars. And not all of them are from friends :) That is a first for me, and feels gratifying. I’ve also received compliments from various people who have played the game.

I haven’t started the process of emailing blogs, I’ll probably do that over the weekend. I also need to update the apk to some of the 3rd party marketplaces, and if I don’t receive any crash reports by this weekend, I’ll probably start the work to build an Amazon version.

  1. Hey Ziggy,

I really like your new game! I been sceptic after seeing the trailers, but I tried it and it is actually pretty cool. Everybody knows side-scrollers, some are good most ar bad, but Neil Rajah is really a good one. I cannot even say what I like most about it, it is just fun and I like it :)

I am developing games, too. I just started with a friend of mine. We are currently figuring out which adnetwork we what to use. Therefore we are trying a lot. We were looking for premium ads for other games or apps. Like rich media or fullscreen banners. The main problem is that the fill-rates are too weak.

I have seen that you have that kind of ads between levels. Would you let me know what networks your using for this? I was surprised that it is actually always delivering, is it?

What really makes sense for banner ads is Madvertise. It has very low fill-rate, but they pay a lot per click. Therefore they perform pretty good in our apps. With only 5% of the our total impressions, Madvertise contributes 20% of the revenue.

Good job with the games and your blog! Keep going!

    • Thanks for the compliments :) I’m glad you like the game.

I’m using Mobclix, the 320×250 ads are also from Mobclix. I tried AdMob about a year ago, but I haven’t tried anything else since then. I’ve heard of other developers having good success with Madvertise. They say the same hting – low fill rate (especially outside Europe, I think?), but good payments per click.

I can’t really say if it’s always delivering, because I recently put an ICS ROM on my phone that comes with a built-in ad blocker. I’m happy to hear that it seems to be working :) The ad impressions shown on the Mobclix dashboard more or less match the number of levels played that Flurry reports. So I think it’s mostly working, but that’s the only data I have that can link the two.

Good luck with your game development endeavor :)

  2. Hi Ziggy,
